Course Overview:
The Aerial Rescue Refresher Training Course is designed for qualified and experienced tree climbers who need to refresh and maintain their aerial rescue skills in line with current industry best practice and safety standards. This short, practical course revisits critical rescue techniques, safety procedures, and legal responsibilities to ensure climbers remain competent, confident, and compliant.
The course focuses on reinforcing safe climbing methods, effective casualty management, and efficient rescue scenarios from within the tree canopy or a standing pole. Emphasis is placed on hazard awareness, equipment checks, communication with ground staff, and carrying out rescues swiftly and safely under realistic conditions.
This refresher is ideal for arborists and tree care professionals looking to update their skills and maintain workplace competency.
Course Objectives:
- To reaffirm safe working practices for tree climbing and aerial rescue operations
- To demonstrate correct inspection, selection, and use of climbing equipment and PPE
- To review and apply current legislation, industry guidance, and site safety requirements
- To safely access trees using rope and harness systems
- To select and assess suitable anchor points for climbing and rescue situations
- To maintain effective communication between climber and ground staff during rescue scenarios
- To demonstrate efficient ascent, descent, and work positioning techniques
- To carry out a range of aerial rescue techniques for injured or incapacitated climbers
- To manage rescue situations calmly and effectively while minimising risk to all personnel
- To correctly store and care for climbing and rescue equipment following use
